Launch of CRVS National Strategic Plan 2024-2029 for Somalia
At the Second Annual Meeting of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Steering Committee held on 26th November 2023, the Director, African Centre for Statistics had the opportunity to address delegates including 10 ministers & development partners at the launch of CRVS National Strategic Plan 2024-2029 for Somalia in Mogadishu. The launch was preceded with enactment of a CRVS law which is a great achievement for Somalia. He emphasized the need for integration of CRVS and ID management systems. The use of Artificial Intelligence in statistical production is now imperative.
The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation H.E Ahmed Moallim Fiqi met the Director of African Centre for Statistics at UNECA, Oliver Chinganya and Chief of Demographic and Social Statistics, William Muhwava to discuss strategic issues of CRVS in Somalia.
The Deputy Special Representative George Conway talked about the importance of the National ID and Civil Registration in the planning and service delivery of national efforts.
The deputy Minister of Health and human services, Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Bulaale, highlighted the significance of an effective Civil Registration System in ensuring accurate birth and death records. He noted that registering births and deaths contributes to improved health service delivery as a priority for the Ministry of Health.
